Public Act 357 of 2004 provides a funding mechanism to serve as a substitute to county revenue sharing payments. This substitute funding mechanism involves a gradual shift of county property tax millage from a winter tax levy to a summer tax levy and additionally, requires the establishment of a restricted fund to be known as the Revenue Sharing Reserve Fund. Tax levy shift - The gradual shift from a winter tax levy to a summer tax levy will occur as follows: In 2005, 1/3 of the county's allocated mills will be levied in the summer. In 2006, 2/3 of the county's allocated mills will be levied in the summer. In 2007, and each year after, all of the county's allocated mills will be levied in the summer. Payments:  All you need to do is send in the top portion of the tax statement with your check or money order to the Treasurer’s Office.

Payment must be made in full as we do not accept partial payments. Keep the bottom portion of your tax statement as your receipt along with your canceled check. No receipts will be mailed back. Note: Checks are accepted only as conditional payment of taxes, and if payment is denied upon presentation to the bank, the tax will be restored as unpaid to the roll without further notice and will be subject to all interest and penalty charges.

Payments will be recorded on the date received. Postmarks will NOT be honored. Property tax information is now available on the Oakland County 24 Hour Tax Hotline by dialing (248) 858-0611 or toll free at 1 (888) 600-3773. To access tax information you will need to enter your 10-digit parcel ID number. There is no charge for this. Information is also available online at the Oakland County website for a fee. The Treasurer’s office handles questions regarding the billing and collection of property taxes. Specific questions regarding property assessments should be referred to the Oakland County Equalization Office at (248) 858-2180.

Permits:
Peddler/Solicitor Permit (PDF)

Garage sale permits are no longer required. Residents are allowed to have three garage sale days per year and are reminded that any signs placed at subdivision entrances need to not be in the city right of way (between sidewalk and street) and must not block sight lines for traffic. Each year the City sponsors a City-wide garage sale. This annual sale is scheduled for the last weekend in April or the first weekend of May. (See website homepage for this year's information). All leftover or unwanted items can be placed on the curb on your regular trash pick up day following the sale.
