Within the City of South Lyon there are approximately 25 miles of roads the DPW is responsible for maintaining. This includes brush pickup, leaf pickup, sweeping, street repairs, sign installation and replacement, drainage, and snow removal. The City does NOT maintain or plow Pontiac Trail, Eleven Mile, Martindale, Ten Mile, Dixboro or Nine Mile east of Pontiac Trail. These roads fall under the jurisdiction of the Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC). RCOC is responsible for the maintenance of these roads and any problems or concerns should be directed to Oakland County at 248-858-4804. Trees The DPW maintains the street trees and trees located on public property. This includes storm damage, trimming, planting and maintenance of newly planted trees on City property. If you have any questions or wish to report problems or damage regarding the City's trees, call the DPW at 248-437-6914. The City is not responsible for maintaining trees located on private property. Hunters Creek Subdivision Cemetery The Department of Public Works is responsible for the opening and closing of graves within the South Lyon Cemetery. A crew of retired men employed by the City provides mowing and light maintenance and does an excellent job of caring for the grounds so visitors to the cemetery have a pleasant environment in which to visit loved ones. Water Mains The DPW maintains all of the water mains within the City. This entails the repair of leaks and breaks within our right-of-way, hydrant flushing, hydrant repair, valve repair, winterizing hydrants and any other issues pertaining to the City's water system. Sanitary Sewer Mains The DPW maintains all of the sanitary sewer mains within the City. During the year, the DPW cleans these sewer mains using high-pressure water and removes any buildup of foreign material with a vacuum truck. They also respond to sewer problems reported by residents and businesses within the City. If you suspect a problem, contact the DPW at 248-437-6914. The City will call a sewer company, if necessary, to open the service leads from a residence to the City's main. The homeowner, however, is responsible for any expenses for opening plugged lines or repairs from the residence to his/her property line. Storm Sewer Lines The DPW maintains the entire storm sewer system within the City. This includes cleaning structures, cleaning lines and keeping the drains free from debris, as well as repairing or rebuilding structures when necessary. |
