Site Plan Review
To fairly and consistently apply all adopted standards and regulations.
To look out for the best interests of the entire community, not just the people at a public hearing, or an applicant or opponent.
Hear and decide appeals from any administrative decision, regulations found in the City's Zoning Ordinance or interpretations of the City code, and matters referred to it. The ZBA grants variances to property owners The Zoning Board of Appeals is independent of the City Council and Planning Commission. Appealing decisions of the ZBA is done through the Circuit Court.
Parks and Recreation Commission-
Advise the City Manger of its recommendations on the acquisition of park land, development of park land including the facilities to be placed thereon and the operation, management and control of all indoor and outdoor parks and recreation facilitates.
Collect, arrange and preserve historical materials, including book pamphlets, maps, charts, manuscripts, papers, copies of domestic and foreign records and archives, paintings, statuary and other objects and materials illustrative of and relating to the history of the South Lyon area.
Procure and preserve narratives of the early pioneers, their exploits, perils, challenges and achievements.
Cooperate with and assist other Michigan historical societies of the State and County with a view to gathering historical matters pertaining to the South Lyon Area and its early pioneers.
Housing Commission-
To determined in what area of the City it is necessary to provide sanitary housing facilities for families of low income and for the elimination of housing conditions which are detrimental to the public peace, health, safety, morals, and/or welfare.
To purchase lease, sell, exchange, transfer, assign and mortgage any property, real or personal, or acquire the same by gift, bequest or under the power of eminent domain; to own, hold, clear and improve property; to engage in or to contract for the design and construction, reconstruction, alteration, improvement, extension, and/or repair of any housing project or projects to lease and/or operate any housing project or projects.
To establish and revise rents of any housing project or projects, but shall rent all property for such sums as will make them self-supporting, including all charges for maintenance and operation, for principal and interest on loans and bonds, and for taxes.
To rent only to such tenants as are unable to pay for more expensive housing accommodations.
Board of Review-
Hears appeals from property owners to valuations assigned to real and personal property by the City's Assessor.
Review and, if acceptable, approve the real and personal property tax rolls prepared by the City Assessor.
Members of this committee are appointed directly by the City Manager and work under the direction of the City Manager.
Work in conjunction with the Parks and Recreation Commission and other boards to accomplish common goals for beautifying the City and offering a pleasant environment in which to live and work
