City Manager David Murphy came to the City of South Lyon
from the Charter Township of Brighton, in June 2008. As City Manager, he is
responsible to South Lyon's Mayor and City Council for the administration of
City government.
David has extensive public sector experience, including over 15 years as chief
executive officer of municipalities across the state. He began his career as
Manager for the Village of Almont, leaving after four and a half years to
become Manager of the Village of Caro. While in Caro, David facilitated a deal
that brought Michigan’s first ethanol plant to the Village-owned industrial
park, a deal which represented a $65,000,000 investment in the Village. David
left Caro after seven years to become Manager of the Charter Township of
Brighton.
David has a Masters Degree in Public Administration from Oakland University and
a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Michigan-Dearborn. He is married to
Kathleen and they have two young sons.
